Box Score Raleigh, NC— The Bluefield State Men's Basketball team suffered a four point loss against Shaw University 79-83 in the Spaulding Gym in Raleigh, NC.

In the first half, the Shaw Bears took a 7-point lead early on with 15:24 on the clock. In the next 6 minutes though, the Big Blues tied the game 15-15. With 5:18 on the clock, Julian Hernandez gave the lead back to Bluefield State and they went with it, extending their lead to 9 points with just under three minutes remaining. By the end of the first half, the Big Blues held on to their lead, 39-34.
In the second half, the Shaw Bears made a quick layup to cut the lead to 2 points, but the Big Blues pushed back and extended their lead to 12 points, 58-46, after two made free-throws by Chas Harvey with 11:53 on the clock.
The Shaw Bears didn't give up though and started their comeback. The Bears went on a 19-6 run to take the lead, 65-64, after a made three with 5:56 remaining in the game. The Bears pushed the lead to 7 points with 2:00 minutes left in the game and held on to the 4-point victory after two made free-throws to seal the game.
For the game, the Big Blues shot 39.1% from the field, 36% from three and 83.3% from the three-throw line. The Big Blues only committed 13 turnovers while their opponents' committed 18.
The Shaw Bears took control of the boards though, over-powering the Big Blues 52-35. As well as on the free-throw line. The Bears went 32-for-50 while the Big Blues went 20-for-24.
Senior Mark Durgan had another big game with 31 points (8-for-19 FGs and 12-for-15 FTs), 6 assists, and 1 steal. Junior Joshua Windham (pictured) had a great game with a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, he also had 1 steal.
Freshman Chas Harvey had a solid game with 15 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Senior Avery Holliday grabbed 7 rebounds, 4 points, and 1 steal. Junior Julian Hernandez added in 8 points and 2 rebounds.
The Big Blues will play Chowan University on Jan. 2nd in at 4:00 p.m. Murfreesboro, NC.
