Sports Medicine

The Bluefield State Sports Medicine department is made up of certified athletic trainers, physicians, and additional medical specialists. Bluefield State is dedicated to the health and wellbeing of it’s student-athletes. The institution employs full-time athletic trainers, they are available to assist all student-athletes with their healthcare needs through in-house treatment to making the proper referrals.  

What is athletic training? 

Athletic training encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an allied health care profession. 

Athletic Trainers are educated to provide comprehensive patient care in five domains of clinical practice: prevention; clinical evaluation and diagnosis; immediate and emergency care; treatment and rehabilitation; and organization and professional health and well-being.

Training Room Hours 

The athletic training hours are weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm. Athletic Trainers will be present or on call for official sanctioned activities.   

COVID Protocols

PHYSICALS 

All physicals must be completed by a physician or nurse practitioner. The Bluefield State University Health Center can conduct physicals by appointment only, to schedule please call: (304) 327-4170. Completed physicals and the additional documents below MUST be submitted and reviewed by the Athletic Training Staff in order to participate in any athletic department sanctioned activity. This includes but is not limited to practice, lift, and/or conditioning.

Insurance Information 

Please review the BSC Athletic Insurance Information complete the Athletic Health & Insurance Form and return to your athletic trainer along with a copy of the front and back of your primary insurance card.
