Bluefield, W.Va.—The Bluefield State Women's Basketball team played in their first game back from Christmas break. The Lady Blues lost to West Virginia State University 46-90 in the Ned E. Shott Gymnasium this afternoon in Bluefield, W.Va.

Today was the Bluefield City Parks and Rec Day, where the Lady Blues welcomed the participants and their families to today's women's basketball game.

For the game, the Lady Blues shot 26.2% from the field, 28.6% from three, and 53.3% from the free-throw line. The Lady Blues committed 19 turnovers and forced their opponents' to have 13. The Yellow Jackets were hot on offense shooting 47.1% and 33.3% from three.

In the first quarter, the Lady Blues stayed within reach of their opponents' and were down 10-20 going into the second quarter.

The Yellow Jackets' extended their lead in the second quarter, out-scoring the Lady Blues 26-11. The Lady Blues were down 21-46 at the half.

At the break, Tierra Richberg and Janae Williams are leading the way for the Lady Blues with 8 points each. Tanasia Blake has the team high of 6 rebounds.

Coming out of the half, the Lady Blues were more aggressive on both sides of the ball and cut into the lead to 21 points with 6:39 on the clock. The Yellow Jackets stormed back though and took a 29 point advantage at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets kept their foot on the pedal and the Lady Blues couldn't overcome the deficit, losing the game 46-90.

Junior Tanasia Blake (pictured) put up another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, she also had 2 steals and 1 block. Senior Janae Williams had 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Junior Tierra Richberg had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and 1 steal. Freshman Lyndsay Hatfield had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

The Lady Blues next game is on the road against Alderson-Broaddus on Jan. 7th at 5:15 p.m. in Philippi, W.Va.
