Box Score 2 Frankfort, KY- The Bluefield State Women hit the road for a two game tournament hosted by Kentucky State University this weekend. Friday night the Big Blues played Central State and ended up falling 81-37. Day 2 was not much better for the ladies as they played the hosts and ended up losing 108-44.
The ladies reverted back to old habits when playing Central State on Friday turning the ball over 40 times after having two games in a row with under 20 turnovers. Defensively the Big Blues played well only allowing Central St. to connect on 7 of their 30 3-point attempts. But the Marauders were able to take advantage in the paint, scoring 38 points from close range. Offensively, the Bluefield State went through Tanasia Blake who ended the game with 14 points going 6-13 from the field with 2 3-pointers. Elizabeth Doughty was second on the team with 6 points. She also added 3 rebounds and a steal for the game. But with Blake being the only Big Blues force offensively, Central State was able to pull away and won 81-37.
Game 2 saw the Big Blues face off against Kentucky State and the ladies just had no answer for the Thorobreds defensively, especially when guarding Brittani Rizzi who went 14-22, 13 of those from behind the arc. These 13 three's in a game puts Rizzi 2nd in the NCAA DII record books for most 3's in a game. Offensively Tanasia Blake, Lyndsay Hatfield and Maggie Tien led the Big Blues. Hatfield scored 9 and went 4-11 and added a free throw to reach her total. Tien also had 9, with all of her points coming off 3's. Blake once again was the lady's leading scorer with 18. She also recorded 12 rebounds, giving her another double-double. But the record setting performance of Kentucky State's Brittani Rizzi overshadowed Blake's strong performance. The Big Blues had no answer for her and fell 108-44.
The ladies have one day off before taking on the Senators of Davis & Elkins. This game will be at 6:00 pm in Ned's Den and the last home game before the Thanksgiving Holidays.
