Big Blues Lose Season Series to Washington Adventist

Box Score

Bluefield, WV- The Big Blues WBB team was back in action tonight against the Washington Adventist Lady Shock. This is the second meeting between these two teams this season with Shock taking the first one 53-45. Unfortunately the result of the second match up did not turn out to be much better for the Big Blues as they fell 67-50.

The Big Blues came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter building an 8-0 lead. Everyone got in the action in the first quarter as 5 different Blues were able to get points on the board. This helped them build a 13-9 lead after the first 10 minutes.

But the second quarter was the Big Blues undoing as they allowed the Shock to get 27 points in the quarter. The Shock found their rhythm from downtown making 6 of their 10 threes in this quarter alone. This completely turned the tide as the Blues went on a 3:00 minute scoring drought right at the Shock started making their 3's. The quarter ended with the Shock 36, the Blues 22.

After halftime things did get better for the Lady Blues as they were able to make it to the foul line. In the 3rd quarter alone, they shot 12 free throws, making 8 of them. By getting to the line early in the quarter the Big Blues were able to battle back and bring it to within 8 with just under 3:00 minutes left in the quarter. The Blues scored 14 in the quarter and had the game within their grasp going into the 4th with the score being 46-36.

As the 4th quarter started the Blues continued to battle but could never bring it closer than the 10 point deficit it had at the end of the 3rd. The Shock made their free throws down the stretch to solidify a 67-50 victory.

Tierra Richberg led the way for the Ladies, scoring 16 points. She ended the game grabbed 5 boards and 3 steals before fouling out. Tanasia Blake was also in double figures and ended up having another double-double night by having 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Big Blues will be back in action on Saturday against Salem International. This game will be at 2:00 and will also be Senior Day for Janae Williams as she will play her second to last home game in the Blue, White and Gold.
