Box Score Bluefield, WV- The Lady Blues lose at home to the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers by a final score of 81-43. After this game, Bluefield State falls to 1-20 on the season and The Battlers improve to 8-13.
Things started off well for the Lady Blues as they were able to play some strong defense keeping Alderson-Broaddus in check for most of the first quarter. The teams traded baskets and were tied at 6 halfway through the quarter. But the Battlers were able to start to break down the Blues defense and pull out to a 15-8 lead as the quarter ended.
But the second quarter was really where things slipped away for the Lady Blues. As it has been for a lot of the season, turnovers and lack of rebounding were the culprits to AB making another run and taking a 44-22 lead into the locker room.
The third quarter did not see any improvement by the Blues offense, as they were only able to get 8 points. The fourth quarter looked a little better offensively at the Lady Blues were able to get 13 points to bring the game to a 81-43 final.
Tierra Richburg and Tanasia Blake were the leading scorers for the Blues scoring a combined 28 points between the two of them. Tanasia was also able to grab 12 boards, giving her a double-double for the game (11 points).
The bright spot for the game today was at half time when the Lady Blues welcomed back nine former basketball alumni. It was great seeing all the former athletes and Coach Fong and the Blues Athletic Department are really are excited to see this tradition grow in the coming years.
