Lady Blues win on the road

Box Score

After being of for a week, the Lady Blues were ready to get back into action and took to the floor against a very talented and tough Campbellsville-Harrodsburg squad. The home team enter the night with a 10-4 record on the season, so the Lady Blues knew they were in for a fight. After all the dust had cleared and time ran off the clock, the Lady Blues walked away with a very hard fought 80-70 road win.

The Lady Blues would start of on a quick 7-1 lead, but would see the home team battle back and cut the lead to just one (14-13) with a little over a minute remaining in the first quarter. A free throw by Haley McComas and a lay-up at the buzzer from Natiori Nesbit would build the lead back to four (17-13) at the end of the first.

An 10-2 run to start the second quarter would see the home team build their largest lead of the game at four points (23-19). The Lady Blues would respond with a 10-0 run of their own and never relinquish the lead the rest of the game. Sophomore Jia Coppola would start the run with an old fashioned three-point play, followed by two free throws from Ericah Burton, a traditional three from Ameera McClain, and a lay-up from Kylah Webb (off of a steal and assist from Coppola). The teams traded baskets for much of the rest of the quarter and saw Bluefield State take a 41-37 lead into the locker room.

The third period would see some more of that back and forth action, as the home team would trim into the lead many times, but it would see the Lady Blues build their lead to six (61-55) by the end of the period. Alexus Tucker and Dani Janutolo would lead the way in the third with each scoring six apiece, while Autumn Spangler would come off the bench to contribute five.

The final stanza would see the visitors get the ball inside and build their lead to as many as twelve before winning by the final margin of ten. Webb, Lauryn Hatfield, and Derricka Bramwell would combine to go 7 for 9 from the floor inside for the Lady Blues, accounting for all of their made field goals in the stanza.

Webb would lead the way with a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds. Both would be team highs on the day for the Lady Blues. They would add three more in double digits as Tucker would have 13, Bramwell 12, and Hatfield 10.

The Lady Blues will be in action again Wednesday evening when they travel to Wilberforce, Ohio to take on the Bulldogs of Wilberforce University. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
