Solid win for the Lady Blues

Box Score

Coming into Wednesday night's game versus Central State University, the Lady Blues hadn't played in a week. They showed that they were well rested and ready to play, coming out on top with a solid 76-55 victory on their home floor.

The Lady Blues got started early as just 7 seconds into the ball game, Lauryn Hatfield came up with the steal, went the length of the floor and drew the foul. She would go to the line and sink both free throws. After a missed shot from the visitors, Dani Janutolo would sink a 3-pointer from the left wing to give the home team a quick 5-0 lead. The Lady Blues would build their lead to 7 on two different occasions in the first quarter, only to see the visiting Marauders cut the lead to two by the end of the period (15-13).

The visitors would score first in the second frame, knotting the score at 15 apiece and over the next two minutes, the two teams would trade baskets to remain tied 19-19 with 7:04 left before the half. The made field goal for the visitors at that mark would be their last field goal of the half as they would only manage 2 made free throws and the Lady Blues would go on a 20-2 run to finish the half. Hatfield would get things going with a made 3-pointer, and then Alexus Tucker would score 9 straight (including a rare 4-point play).  Janutolo would score the next four on two free throws and a lay-up, Kylah Webb would add a free throw, and finally another 3-pointer from Tucker would end the half and send the home team into the locker room up 39-21.

To start the second half, the Lady Blues would remain hot and start the first 1:15 on a quick 9-2 run on three made 3-pointers; two from Webb and the other from Ameera McClain. The lead would never dip below 20 after that. The Lady Blues would actually build the lead to as many as 32 to finish out the third quarter with a 65-33 lead. Webb's 6 points and McClain's 5 points would lead the way for BSC in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter would see Central State cut into the lead and trim it to the final margin of 21, by forcing 8 turnovers and some cold shooting from the Lady Blues, but the damage had already been done and the game was out reach.

Janutolo recorded another double-double on the evening with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Tucker would have a game high 16 points. Derricka Bramwell would come off the bench to contribute 12 points. The Lady Blues shot a solid 43% from the floor on the evening while going a strong 13-15 from the free throw line. They had 20 assists on their 27 made field goals for the evening.

Next up for the Lady Blues will be Wilberforce University on Saturday, February 15 at 2:00 p.m. Before the start of the game, the team will recognize their two seniors, Lauryn Hatfield and Natori Nesbit. Following the women's game, the men's team will take on Kent State-Tuscarawas and the 2020 Hall of Fame class will be honored at the half.
