Box Score BLUEFIELD - The Bluefield State men's basketball team played in their second game of the season against King University at Ned E. Shott Gym Friday evening, 94-87. The Big Blue improve to 1-1, while the Tornados drop to 0-2.
Friday evening, The Big Blue battled back and forth with the Tornados all night. Going into halftime the big blue held the lead 45-44. The second half was another battle between the two teams, however, once the clock hit zero, The Big Blue found themselves on top.
The Bluefield State offense worked seamlessly as numerous players scored in double digits, led by Junior Marquez Cooper and Sophomore Taj-Maal Toney whose 20 points each were the most for The Big Blue Friday night. Not too far behind them was, Senior Brandon Anyanwu with 18 points. Followed by Junior Alex Nunnally who posted 15 points. Off the bench, Sophomore Desomond Freeman grabbed 11 points.
Both Forwards for the Tornados, Brandon Lamberth and J'Son Brooks only managed to score 13 points combined. The Big Blue out rebound the Tornados 46-39. Also, managed to create more fast breaks, 29-13.
The season will continue on Saturday, January 16 with the first road game of the year for the Bluefield State men's basketball team at King University. The Big Blue with face the Tornados once again at Kline Gym.
