RALEIGH, North Carolina - The Bluefield State women's basketball team fell to St. Augustine's University in Emery Gymnasium Saturday afternoon, 83-51.
The Big Blue had an unordinary pregame Saturday afternoon. The Big Blue were rushed to the court without a warmup to start the game. Causing the Falcons to take a 12 point lead in the first quarter over the Big Blue, 21-9.Â
The Big Blue had a tough time closing the gap before halftime. Â
The Big Blue finished the first half down, 42-18.
The start of the second half brought hope for the Big Blue looked to overcome their obstacles. The Big Blue scored 39.1% vs. the Falcons 35.3% in the second half.Â
But the Falcons continued their lead and ended the quarter at 58-33.
The women refused to give up, Autumn Spangler and Zaynah Robinson each hit three-point shots back to back as the Big Blue tried closing the gap early on the fourth quarter. Â
They continued to fight the Falcons through the final five minutes but got outscored 25-18 in the fourth quarter.
Autumn Spangler led the Big Blue with 13 points on 4-11 shooting. Spangler added 3-8 three-pointers and 2-2 free throws in 20 minutes.
Londen Coleman followed right behind Spangler with 12 points on 5-7 shooting. She added three rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes.Â
Derricka Bramwell came off the bench and scored 11 points. She was 5-7 from the free-throw line.Â
Alexus Tucker worked tirelessly at the point Saturday afternoon. Tucker played the entire 40 minutes scoring six points and grabbing six rebounds.
Overall, the team shot 16-42 for 38.1%.
They were 4-16 for 25% from the three-point line.
And 15-20 for 75% from the free-throw line.
