Men's Hoops Ends Season With Loss To Salem, 48-63

BLUEFIELD - The Bluefield State men's basketball team fell in game two against Salem University Sunday afternoon, 48-63. The Big Blue finish the season 3-5, while the Tigers improve to 5-5.

Sunday afternoon's game looked different than Saturday night's game. The Big Blue stayed in a close range most of the first half, at about the 10-minute mark the Big Blue took the lead, 15-13. The Tigers quickly came back to tie the game up, 15-15. At the 7-minute mark, the Big Blue regained the lead, 18-17.

The Big Blue held the lead right up until the half, going into halftime down by two, 26-28. The Big Blue came out into the second half and never regained the lead. The Big Blue got too far behind couldn't find a way to come up with the points at the end.

Bluefield State offense struggled to put points up on the board, with a shooting average of 36 percent. Leading the Big Blue this afternoon was guard Marquez Cooper with 12 points. The Big Blue led in rebounds this afternoon, Arafat Shaibu led the Big Blue with 10 total. Following closely was Taj-Maal Toney with eight.

Jordan Forbes led again for the Tigers this afternoon with 21 points and nine rebounds. Following Forbes was Barron Tanner with 12 points. Bluefield State found themselves with the advantage in points off the bench, 13-10. The Big Blue also had an 18-6 advantage in fast breaks.
