BECKLEY, WV - The men's and women's cross country teams placed second at the Golden Bear Classic which took place Friday afternoon at WVU Tech.

"Our young team continues to grow week after week, and we're excited to see our athletes rewarded for their hard work with some strong individual performances and team-wide improvement. Seeing our runners at the head of the pack in both the men's and women's races is a great indication that we're headed in the right direction as our schedule becomes increasingly challenging during the next few weeks," said Head Coach Brooks Rexroat.
The women got the meet started with a 4k. Abbey Puckett led the way for the Big Blue as she won silver with a time of 19:28.64. Puckett's second-place finish comes after running in her second colligate meet.
The men's squad followed the women's squad place finish with a second-place finish of their own in the 4k as well. Theo Schell led the men's team as he won gold with a time of 13:52.24. The standout senior from Scheinfeld, Germany placed first in his first meet as a Big Blue.
Following Schell was Lavon McClarrin with a time of 14:56.70 to place fourth, registering his first top-five finish in his colligate career.
The Golden Bear Classic was Bluefield State's second meet of the season. The Big Blue will travel to Greensboro, NC Saturday, September 25 for the Greensboro Cross Country Invitational.
