BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield State men's basketball won their first road game of the season against Washington Adventist Saturday Afternoon in the Pitt, 90-85.
The Big Blue will travel to Livingstone. Jan. 31. Tipoff is set at 7:30 p.m.
Early on the Big Blue and the Shock went back and forth with the lead. Jordan Hinds drained a three to put the Big Blue up at the 18-minute mark.
The Big Blue maintained their lead for the next seven minutes. Causing turnovers which turned into points for the Big Blue. At the 10 minute-mark, Hinds committed a foul sending Darius Huff to the line for two.
Huff made both putting the Shock up one with 10 minutes left in the half. The Big Blue quickly regained the lead with a layup by Marquez Cooper.
The Shock took over with about seven minutes to go. The Big Blue never regained their lead for the rest of the half.
At the start of the second half, the Shock continued to add to their lead. A jumper from Ethan Murphey put the Shock up by nine, 54-45.
The Big Blue slowly closed the gap. Finally, at the 15-minute mark, they took the lead back with a fast break and good layup by Ryan Stowers, 55-54.
The Shock took regained the lead back at the 11-minute mark with a layup by Huff, 66-65. Not too long after that Hinds drew the foul by Huff. Sending him to the line giving the Big Blue the lead by putting in both, 71-70.
The Shock quickly went back up with a jumper by Freddy Liriano, 72-71. The Shock again held the lead for about four minutes.
Hinds was then again fouled by Huff and sent to the line to shoot two. Hinds knocked both shots down to put the Big Blue back up, 78-77.
The Big Blue never surrendered their lead after that.
Ryan Stowers lead the Big Blue with 22 points on 5-5 shooting in 24 minutes. Stowers also added seven rebounds.
Marquez Cooper followed with 19 points on 6-17 shooting in 31 minutes. Cooper added four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
Jordan Hinds also added 19 points and seven rebounds. Hinds added five rebounds and five steals in 22 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 26-58 for 44.8%.
They were 3-12 for 25.0% from the three-point line.
The team was also 35 of 41 on free throws.
The Big Bue scored 34 points off of turnovers.
