Meadowview, VA – Bluefield State University men's basketball fell to Emory & Henry in their season opener 96-89.
Malik Tidwell led the scoring for the Big Blue with 27 followed by Kaine McColley with 15, Landry Palata with 12 and Chase Page with ten. Jordan Hinds led in rebounds for the Big Blue with seven rebounds and ten points.
The Big Blue jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after midrange jumpers from Palata and Hinds and a three from McColley. The Big Blue built a double-digit lead, 27-16, midway through the first half after a layup from Rylan Bowens. The Big Blue trailed for the first time 32-31 late in the half after a made free throw from the Wasps. The Big Blue were able to take the four-point advantage into the half after outscoring the wasps 7-2 in the final minute.
Midway through the second half, the Wasps built a ten-point lead over the Big Blue. After two trips to the line by Tidwell, the Big Blue took the 78-77 lead over the Wasps. With a minute left in regulation, the score stood 89-89. After a three shifted the momentum to the Wasps, the Big Blue could not recover, falling to the Wasps 96-89.
