Lincoln, PA- Bluefield State University men's basketball secure their first win of the season on Saturday over Cheyney University, 103-52.
Kaine McColley led all scorers with 21 points. McColley went 6-8 from the field, 4-5 beyond the arch and 5-5 from the line. Samuel Desouza and Malik Lacewell added 15 apiece followed by Jordan Hinds with 14 and Malik Tidwell with 10.
The Big Blue jumped out to an early lead after back-to-back threes from McColley and a midrange jumper from Hinds. Cheyney would add a bucket of their own, but could not stop the Big Blue offense that would go on to score nine in a row to extend the lead 17-2. Another three from McColley would spark a 13-0 run to put the Big Blue up by 27 midway through the first. Cheyney would outscore the Big Blue 6-2 in the final two minutes of the half, but the Big Blue would go into the half with the 56-26 advantage.
The Big Blue offense continued to extend their lead, scoring the first 10 of the second half unanswered. A layup from Cheyney would cut the Big Blue lead to 33 with 12 minutes left in play, but the Big Blue answered with 15 consecutive points to have the 87-39 lead. Jaaden Newell found Lacewell for the corner three in the final minute to give the Big Blue their largest lead of the night (51) and the 103-52 victory over Cheyney.
