Bluefield, WV - Bluefield State University women's basketball remains undefeated home after an 80-70 victory over Davis & Elkins on Monday.
Gabrielle Thomas led the Big Blue with 17 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one steal. Azariah Binford followed with 16 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals. Essence Cowan added 15 points and six rebounds followed by Dani Janutolo with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Both teams traded opening buckets before Davis & Elkins hit back-to-back buckets to take the five-point lead. Midway through the half, the Big Blue scored six consecutive points to tie it at 10. D&E would outscore the Big Blue 11-7 in the remainder of the quarter to go into the second ahead 21-17.
A three from Cowan and another from Thomas put the Big Blue ahead by two at the 3:30 mark. Going into the final three minutes, the Big Blue scored 8 of the 13 points in the quarter to go into the half with the 42-37 advantage.
A three from Binford gave the Big Blue their largest lead of the night at 12 with six minutes left in the third. D&E battled back and a trip to the line pulled the Senators within one going into the final quarter.
The Senators opened up the final quarter to take the one-point lead, but the Big Blue bounced back to maintain the lead for the remainder of the game. The Big Blue closed out the game with a seven-point run to take the 80-70 victory over Davis & Elkins.
