MBB Come Up Short Against Shaw

Raleigh, NC – Bluefield State men's basketball fell to Shaw University 82-79 on Wednesday at Spaulding Gym.

Malik Tidwell led all scorers with 23 points followed by Kaine McColley with 16 points and nine rebounds and Landry Palata with 13 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

After both teams battled back and forth for the first five minutes of play, the score was tied at 11. The Big Blue took the lead after a free throw from Jordan Hinds and a three from Chase Page. The Big Blue built a ten-point lead after a midrange jumper from Tidwell at the 6:15 mark. Shaw would cut the Big Blue lead down to five before going into the half.

Shaw University opened the second half with five consecutive points to tie it up at 38. The Big Blue answered with five consecutive points of their own to take back the lead. Midway through the half, the score was even at 68 and again at 76 with five minutes left in play. Shaw took the lead after a trip to the line and maintained it for the remainder of the game.
