Wrestling Victorious in Home Opener

Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State men's wrestling came away with two wins in their home opener against Greensboro College (30-14) and Southwest Virginia Community College (39-3) on Thursday.

Sherman Franklin (174) and Gabriel Nesmith (133) each had pins against Greensboro College. Franklin had an astonishing 34 second pin. Luke Roberts (125) and Gregory Dennard (197) each collected wins over Greensboro college wrestlers with Harley Boatwright (157) and Kemar Plummer (165) earning wins by forfeit.

Franklin collected his second pin of the day against SWVCC in 1:30. Dennard won his second match of the day after a 4-3 win over SWVCC. Roberts, Micah Negron (133), Nesmith (141), Plummer and Grayson Keisler (184) each won by default.

"It was a great team effort by our guys tonight" said head coach Blaze Shade. "Everyone fought for seven minutes with confidence and purpose and that's what led to our results. First home wins for our program too! Now it's time to refocus and prepare for our Tri on Monday."

The Big Blue will compete against Davis & Elkins College and UNC Pembroke Monday, December 12th in Elkins, WV.
