BECKLEY, West Virginia — The Bluefield State women's basketball team fell to West Virginia Tech University in a midweek match-up Wednesday night in Beckley Convention Center, 86-47.
Azariah Binford led the Big Blue with 11 points on 3-12 shooting. Binford added five assists in 40 minutes.
Autumn Spangler added seven points on 3-17 shooting in 34 minutes.
Katrina Davies also added seven points in 23 minutes.
Alexus Tucker added five assists and three rebounds in 31 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 16-58 for 27.6%.
They were 4-25 for 16.0% from the three-point line.
And 11-13 for 84.6% from the free-throw line.
The Big Blue had a lead early in the first quarter. Dani Janutolo hit a three at the 7-minute mark, 5-4.
Their second and last lead of the game came after Autumn Spangler stepped back to add three more, 8-6.
The Bears took the lead back at the 4-minute mark with a three from Alanis Hill. The Bears went up by seven over the Big Blue with 1:34 left in the quarter. Gabrielle Thomas cut the Bears lead to four at the end of the quarter with a three from the corner.
Whitney Justice extended the Bear's lead at the start of the second quarter by six with a layup in the paint. Katrina Davis quickly came down and popped a three cutting the lead back down by three.
Londen Coleman finger rolled a layup in the paint to cut the Bears lead by one at the 7-minute mark, 19-18.
The Big Blue and Bears went on a two-minute scoreless run. Alexus Tucker fouled to send Justice to the line for two. Justice made 1/2 at the line, 20-18.
The Bears took a 10 point lead over the Big Blue going into halftime.
The Bears outscored the Big Blue 28-12 in the third quarter.
The Big Blue struggled to climb the uphill battle in the fourth quarter as well. The Bears outscored them 22-9 in the fourth quarter.
