Meadowview, Virginia – The Bluefield State men's basketball team captured their second win against Emory and Henry on the road Saturday evening in Meadowview, Virginia, 119-109.
The Big Blue will travel to Central State University. Feb. 23. Tipoff is set at 7:30 p.m.
The Big Blue and the Wasps went back and forth with the lead throughout the beginning of the first half.
Marquez Cooper hit a fade-away jumper in the paint to give the Big Blue the lead at the 10-minute mark, 27-26.
The Big Blue defense worked tirelessly to keep the Wasps defense scoreless for about three minutes. As a result, the Big Blue added eight points to their lead, 34-26.
Down the stretch, the Wasps took back the lead at the 1-minute mark with a layup by Cade Looney, 51-50. The Big Blue took the lead back before halftime with a three-pointer by
Jordan Hinds. Cooper secured the lead with a last-minute jumper at the end of the first half.
The Wasps started the second half with a three-pointer by Malcolm Morgan, giving them the lead, 55-54. The Big Blue answered by taking the lead when Cooper drew the foul to send him to the line to shoot two, 56-55.
Kesean Robinson gave the Big Bue an 11-point lead with a three-pointer assisted by
Hirotaka Ohashi, 70-59.
The Wasps cut the Big Blue lead to one after a three-pointer by Jacob Morgan, 101-100. Cooper closed the game out for the Big Blue with a 10-point lead over the Wasps with two made free-throws.
Jordan Hinds led with a career-high of 33 points on 12-17 shooting. Hinds added four rebounds in 29 minutes.
Marquez Cooper followed with 27 points 10-17 shooting. Cooper added five rebounds in 30 minutes.
Kesean Robinson added 23 points on 8-12 shooting. Robinson added seven rebounds in 25 minutes.
Hirotaka Ohashi had a double-double with 10 points and 12 assists in 37 minutes.
Landry Palata added 11 rebounds and eight points in 32 minutes.
Overall, the team shot 48-85 for 50.6%.
They were 13-29 for 44.8% from the three-point line.
The team was also 20 of 30 on free throws.
The Big Blue outrebounded the Wasps 45-40.
