Women's Basketball Falls to West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, West Virginia — The Bluefield State women's basketball team fell to West Virginia Wesleyan Monday night in Rockefeller Center, 57-52.   

Londen Coleman led the Big Blue with 14 points on 5-16 shooting. Coleman added eight rebounds in 26 minutes. 

Autumn Spangler added 12 points on 5-11 shooting in 40 minutes.

Overall, the team shot 20-64 for 31.3%.

They were 6-26 for 23.1% from the three-point line.

And 6-12 for 50.0% from the free-throw line.

Azariah Binford scored the first two for the Big Blue. The Bobcats got off to a slow start but quickly added six to take the lead, 6-2. Dani Janutolo added three for the Big Blue after a scoreless five minutes. 

Autumn Spangler hit a jumper in the paint to give the Big Blue the lead, 7-6. Daveona Hatchell quickly put the Bobcats back up with a jumper. 

The Big Blue went on another scoreless drought, while the Bobcats went up by six, 13-7 with 1:37 left in the first quarter. Londen Coleman completed an old-fashion three to cut the Bobcats lead to one at the end of the first quarter. 

The Bobcats continued to add to their lead at the beginning of the second quarter. Spangler hit a three at the 7-minute mark to give the Big Blue the lead, 19-18. 

The Big Blue held onto the lead into halftime, 30-23.   

The Big Blue continued to add to their lead at the beginning of the third quarter. Janutolo drained a three from the top of the key, giving the Big Blue a 16-point lead at the 6-minute mark. 

The Bobcats had a tough time finding a way to put points on the board but managed to get within nine at the end of the quarter. 

The Bobcats slowly started creeping back up to the Big Blue. The Bobcats took the lead with 1:46 to go in the game. The Big Blue were left scoreless, while the Bobcats continued to add their lead. Binford scored a last-minute layup to put the Big Blue within five but it wasn't enough for the win.
