Women's Basketball Blows Past Salem on Senior Day, 90-77

BLUEFIELD — The Bluefield State women's basketball blew by Salem University in their final game of the season in Ned E. Shott Gym, 90-77.  

Londen Coleman led the Big Blue with a double-double. Coleman finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds. 

Azariah Binford also led the Big Blue with a career-high of 20 points 8-12 shooting. Binford added six assists in 40 minutes. 

Katrina Davis came off the bench with 17 points on 6-9 shooting. Davis added four rebounds in 27 minutes. 

Dano Janitolo added a season-high of 14 points on 6-10 shooting. Janutolo added seven rebounds and four steals in 20 minutes.

Overall, the team shot 37-77 for 48.7%.

They were 6-22 for 27.3% from the three-point line.

And 10-12 for 83.3% from the free-throw line.

Dani Janutolo scored the first two of the afternoon with a putback layup in the paint, 2-0. The Tigers got off to a slow start but the Big Blue didn't benefit from it. Tigers tied it up at 2-2 at the 7-minute mark. 

Azariah Binford added two for the Big Blue, giving them the lead again with 6:40 left. Gabrielle Thomas completed a layup in the paint giving the Big Blue a 4-2 lead over the Tigers. 

Jordan Crace answered with a three-pointer cutting the Big Blue lead to one. The Tigers went on to take the lead at the 4-minute mark with a three-pointer by Daniella Quesada, 8-6. 

Janutolo tied it back up with another layup in the paint. A quick steal by Binford and another completed layup by Janutolo gave the Big Blue their lead back, 10-8.

Vantanae Garrett gave the Tigers their lead back at the 2-minute mark with a three-pointer, 17-15. A jumper by Londen Coleman quickly tied it back up at 17 with 1:24 left in the first quarter. Kartina Davis put the Big Blue up to end the quarter with a layup inside the paint, 19-17.

The Big Blue continued to add to their lead to start the second quarter. A three-pointer by Alexus Tucker gave the Big Blue an 11 point lead at the 7-minute mark. Down the stretch, Davis drained a three to give the Big Blue a 20 point lead at the 4-minute mark. With a last-minute jumper from Binford, the Big Blue held a 23 point lead over the Tigers at halftime, 50-27. 

The Big Blue started the third quarter adding to their lead. Thomas completed a layup inside the paint, 52-27. The Tigers never got within 20 of the Big Blue the entire third quarter. Lilian Krause got the last two points for the Tigers to end the third but the Big Blue still held on by 20, 73-53. 

The Tigers tried to fight back, eventually cutting the Big Blue lead to 13 at the 5-minute mark in the fourth quarter, 81-68. The Big Blue never let the Tigers get back within 10. Trinity Amick completed a layup in the paint with:16 left to put the Big Blue back up by 16. Krause put a three-pointer up for the Tigers to end the game with the Big Blue up by 13.
