BLUEFIELD -- The Bluefield State Baseball team defeated Alice Llyod Sunday afternoon on senior day at Bowen Field, 10-8.
The Big Blue took an early lead over the Eagles on two-RBI singles by Cole Cote and Taylor Tibbs. Roman Moore had an RBI walk to bring in a run to make it a 3-0 lead.
In the top of the third, the Eagles added two runs to the board on an RBI triple by Kason Hofsess and a sac fly by Ferrell to make it a 3-2 game. The Eagles added another run on an RBI single by Wyatt Crisp to tie things up in the top of the fourth.
The Big Blue would answer back with a run after a Cote RBI doubled bringing in Varela-Payne. In the fifth inning, Varela-Payne had an RBI single that scored Brayden Merrick.
A batter later Cote had a two-RBI double that brought on Varela-Payne and Garrett Hladilek to make it a 7-3 game. The Eagles plated two runs in the seventh to cut the lead down to 7-5.
In the eighth, the Big Blue would add three runs to their lead after Taylor Tibbs doubled that plated JR Mcree and Ty Sizemore. Moore would hit a sac fly to bring in CJ Cooper to make it a 10-5 game.
In the ninth, the Eagles scored three in the inning to make it a 10-8 ball game. The Big Blue would hold on to the lead and go on to win with a final score of 10-8.
