MONTGOMERY, Alabama -- The Bluefield State baseball team fell on day one of the HBCU World series against Miles College at Riverwalk Stadium, 8-3.
The Big Blue got on the board first after Garret Hladilek scored on a wild pitch to take an early lead. The Golden Bears answered back with three runs of their own after a two-RBI double and a sac fly, 3-1.
The Golden Bears would add another run in the second on an RBI single to extend their lead to 4-1. In the top of the third, the Big Blue would cut the lead in half after an RBI single by Hladilek, which brought in Jordan Varela-Payne.
The Golden Bears would extend their lead after a passed ball allowed them to score, making it a 5-2 game. The Golden Bears added another run after a solo home run by Clifton Orr.
The Big Blue answered with a run of their own in the sixth after Brantly Durham doubled and brought in Brayden Merrick to make it a 6-3 game. The Golden Bears added their final run in the eighth to secure the win.
