Wingate, NC – Bluefield State University men's basketball came away with the 94-88 victory over Wingate University.
Malik Tidwell led all scorers with 22 points and six rebounds followed by Jordan Hinds with 18. Kaine McColley added 15 with Landry Palata and Hirotaka Ohashi contributing 11 each.
After back-and-forth buckets to even the score at six, a three from Hinds sparked an eight-point run for the Big Blue to go ahead 14-6. The Big Blue began to pull away midway through the half after consecutive layups from Tidwell, Rylan Bowens, Chase Page, Khamaury McMillan and a jumper from Tidwell put the Big Blue up by 19. The Big Blue had their largest lead of the night at 21 after Hinds forced the turnover and took it to the bucket for two. In the final five minutes, the Wingate Bulldogs outscored the Big Blue 16-8 to cut the Big Blue lead to 13 going into the second half.
After the Big Blue built up a lead of 19 in the first five minutes of the second half, the Bulldogs battled back to pull within one in the final minute of play. A three by Tidwell put the Big Blue ahead by four, but the Bulldogs quickly answered with a fastbreak layup to cut the lead to two. In the final 16 seconds, the Bulldogs fouled to send Tidwell and Hinds to the line to extend the Big Blue lead to come away with the 94-88 victory over Wingate University.
