Raleigh, NC – Bluefield State University Soccer placed third in the Division II Independent Championship Tournament in Raleigh, NC after falling to Edward Waters 2-5, and coming out victorious against Virginia State 3-1 in the third/fourth place game.
Edward Waters (5-2 L)
After both teams went scoreless in the first half, Edward Waters got on the board first in the 47th minute and added another in the 49th minute to take the 2-0 lead over the Big Blue. Edward Waters added two more in the 53rd and 68th minute to extend their lead. The Big Blue began to rally back with a goal by Marit Blom in the 77th minute followed by a penalty kick goal from Kira Zoeller in the 85th minute to cut the deficit to two. Edward Waters scored the final goal of the match in the 85th minute to take the 5-2 victory over the Big Blue.
Virginia State (3-1 W)
The Trojans struck first in the 5th minute to take the early lead. Big Blue Jailynn Creek evened the score in the 15th minute. The Big Blue took the lead in the second half with a goal from Sayen Santana in the 71st minute. The Big Blue secured the win with another goal by Sayen Santana in the 88th minute.
Goal Keeper Rylee Truslow had six saves on the day.
