Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University women's basketball took down Livingstone College 61-47. The Big Blue improve to 7-1(1-0 CIAA) while the Blue Bears move to 6-1(0-1 CIAA).
The Big Blue scored six consecutive points to quickly build the six-point lead four minutes into the game. The Blue Bears closed out the first quarter with the last eight points to take the one-point lead into the second. Both teams traded buckets, but the Big Blue pulled away after scoring seven consecutive points to take the 48-22 lead into the half.
A trip to the line for Alexyss Newman at the 6:48 mark extended the Big Blue 34-24. The Blue Bears scored five in a row late in the half to pull within 11, but a three from Zaynah Robinson took the Big Blue into the fourth with the 14-point lead.
The Big Blue opened the fourth with two free throws from Jayla Sample and a three from Robinson to extend their lead 52-33. The Big Blue had their largest lead of the night with three minutes left to play after two good free throws from Icesis Nwafor. The Blue Bears scored the last six points of the game, but could not overcome the Big Blue deficit.
Azariah Binford led the Big Blue with 12 points followed by Katrina Davis with ten. Shalance Montoya led the Big Blue with ten rebounds.
