Box Score Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University men's basketball outlasts Fayetteville State University 57-56 on Monday. The Big Blue move to 6-8 (3-2 CIAA) and the Broncos move to 5-7(1-2 CIAA).
The Big Blue opened play with a dunk from Nduka Ogwu and a three from Jaylen Bernard to take the early 5-0 lead. The Broncos answered with eight consecutive points to take the three-point lead. At the 3:44 mark, the Broncos extended their lead to 11. The Big Blue would close out the final minute of the first half with a seven-point run to even the score at 29 going into the half.
Back-to-back threes from Jordan Hinds and Jaylen Bernard gave the Big Blue the four-point lead three minutes into the second half. A trip to the line and a layup by the Broncos gave them the two-point lead, but a bucket from Ja'Mere Redus evened the score at 43. After three lead changes, a three from Ogwu evened the score at 48 for the final time of the night. Two free throws from Hinds gave the Big Blue the lead to four with seven seconds left to play. The Broncos would hit a buzzer three, but the Big Blue came out on top 57-56.
Jordan Hinds led the Big Blue with 15 points and six rebounds. Jaylen Bernard came away with 12 and Nduka Ogwu led the Big Blue with eight rebounds and four blocks.
