Bluefield, WV – After taking down VSU on Saturday, the Big Blue completed the sweep with a 13-5 and 9-3 victory on Sunday at Bowen Field.
Game One
The Big Blue got on the board in their first at-bat of the day after Tahir Meulens sent one over the left field fence. Jordan Varela-Payne followed it up with an inside the park homerun to deep center field. The Big Blue added another after Brantley Durham brought in Curtis Ball. The Trojans answered in the next inning with three to tie it up. Varela-Payne led off the third with a single to right center followed by a walk from Cole Cote. Dillon Sullivan doubled to right center to extend the Big Blue lead and later Garret Hladilek singled to make the lead 6-3. Cam Lowke added two more for the Big Blue off of a single to left center. The Big Blue continued to build their lead adding one in the fourth, another in the fifth and three in the seventh to secure the 13-5 victory.
Braeden Major secured the win on the mound, throwing five innings with seven hits, five runs and striking out five.
Game Two
The Trojans took the early lead, scoring in the first but the Big Blue answered with two after an error by the Trojans and a sacrifice fly from Hladilek. Muelens hit his second homerun of the day in the second to extend the Big Blue lead 3-1. The Big Blue added one in the second after a single from Hladilek and another in the fourth after a single by Meulens. Sullivan lead off the fifth with a double to right center. Korbin Bostic later singled to left field to bring in Sullivan. Bostic came across the plate after a balk by the Trojans to extend the lead 7-2. The Big Blue added two in the sixth to secure the weekend sweep 9-3 over Virginia State Univesity.
Zach Powell earned the for the Big Blue throwing six innings only giving up four hits, two runs and striking out eight.
