Bristol, TN – Bluefield State University men's basketball took down King University 106-100 on Wednesday. The Big Blue move to 2-1 on the year with King dropping to 0-3.
Midway through the half the Big Blue trailed by three, but back-to-back layups from Daron Traylor and Darius Boben give the Big Blue the 25-24 lead. A three from Shainen Carter and a midrange jumper from Rell Williams built the Big Blue lead to eight with 3:53 left in the first half. King cut the deficit to six with just under a minute left in the first, but a three from Jaylen Bernard extended the Big Blue lead 49-40 going into the half.
The Big Blue opened the second half with six unanswered points to push their lead to 15 (55-40). King battled back to pull within two of the Big Blue with seven minutes left in regulation. A three-point play from Romeo Aquino and a free throw from Jordan Hinds extended the Big Blue lead to six. With five minutes remaining, a trip to the line for Larry Howell gave the Big Blue the double-digit lead (89-79). The Tornado attempted to rally late, but couldn't overcome the Big Blue, 106-100.
Hinds led the Big Blue with 22 points and six rebounds with Rell Williams adding 20 points on the night. Aquino led the Big Blue with nine rebounds and 18 points.
