Beckley, WV – Bluefield State University women's basketball defeated WVU Tech 99-80 on Tuesday. The Big Blue improve to 4-3 on the year.
Big Blue jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead with a three and a layup by Tianna Rhodes in the first forty seconds of play. The Golden Bears took their first lead of the day, 9-7. with 6:54 remaining in the first quarter. The Big Blue closed out the first quarter with four straight points, leading 25-21. The Big Blue and Golden Bears battle back and forth, with Jasmine Jenkins's second-quarter 12-point performance helping extend the lead into halftime by 10.
Coming out of the half, Big Blue put up a quick 5 points on the scoreboard, taking a commanding 15-point lead within the first sixty seconds of play. Junior Aniyah Vanhook came in at the 5:28 mark and dominated with 10 points to close out the quarter. The Big Blue went on a 12-0 run to take a 26-point lead with shots being made by 5 different players. The Golden Bears scored the last two shots of the game but couldn't overcome the Big Blue deficit, with the final score being 99-80.
Jenkins secured the double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Vanhook added 20 points, with Rhodes having 18 and Jayla Sample with 16. Azariah Binford led all players with 12 rebounds.
