Bowie, MD – Bluefield State University Women's basketball secured the two-point victory over Bowie State University, 56-54. The Big Blue improve to 13-10 (7-7 CIAA) and Bowie State moves to 12-12 (6-8 CIAA).
The Big Blue opened play with a three from Azariah Binford and a jumper from Jayla Sample to take the early 5-0 lead. The Bulldogs answered with the next nine points to take the 9-5 lead. After the Big Blue tied it up at 13, the Bulldogs closed out the quarter with four to take the 17-13 lead into the second quarter. At the 5:17 mark in the second, the Bulldogs built a lead of seven. The Big Blue battled back to take the 27-26 lead with 1:34 left to play. The Bulldogs took the two-point advantage into the half after a three-point play, 29-27.
A layup from Sincere Roberts to open the quarter evened the score 29-29. The Bulldogs would outscore the Big Blue 11-9 in the third quarter to take the 40-36 lead into the fourth. The Big Blue would battled back to tie it up at 46. A trip to the line for the Bulldogs with 42 seconds left to play would even the score at 54, but a free throw from Shalance Montoya and Alexyss Newman would put the Big Blue on top 56-54.
Montoya would come away with the double-double with 20 rebounds and 14 points with Katrina Davis adding 12, and Newman with 11.
