Denmark, SC – Bluefield State University Baseball dropped game one 6-2, but bounced back with an 8-2 victory over Voorhees on Saturday.
Game One
After both teams went scoreless through two innings, Voorhees got on the board first in the third, adding two. The Tigers extended their lead in the fifth, 6-0. Big Blue got on the board in the sixth after Tahraun Hammond reached first on an error and Peyton Lewis tripled to bring Hammond home. Tahir Meulens sacrificed to right field to bring in Lewis. The Big Blue attempted to rally in the top of the seventh, getting two runners on base, but fell short 6-2.
Kerry Collins got the loss on the mound for the Big Blue throwing 4.2 innings, four hits, four runs, four walks and striking out three.
Game Two
The Big Blue got on the board early in game two. Hammond led off the first inning wit ha single followed by a double from Lewis. Both runners later advanced due to a passed ball. Meulens doubled to bring in Lewis for the second run of the inning. The Big Blue extended their lead by one in the second and two in the third. In the third, Chris Larkin doubled followed by a single from Garett Hladilek to bring in Larkin. After Hladilek advanced on the throw and later stole third, Noah Moritz singled to bring in Hladilek.
Hammond drew a walk in the fourth and later crossed the plate after an error by the Tigers. Jacob Trivette extended the Big Blue lead in the sixth after he sent one over the fence, 7-2. The Big Blue scored the final run of the night in the seventh after Jean Carlos Diaz doubled and Larkin singled to bring in pinch runner Korbin Bostic to come away with the 8-2 victory.
Alex Kanipe got the win on the mound for the Big Blue throwing six innings, giving up six hits, two runs, two walks and striking out five.
