Bluefield, VA – After falling to Lincoln earlier in the season, the Big Blue bounced back for a 67-54 victory over the Lions.
Back-to-back layups from Katrina Davis and Jayla Sample got the Big Blue the early 4-0 lead. The Lions got on the board with a layup of their own, but a layup from Shalance Montoya and a three from Sample extended the Big Blue lead to seven. With 40 seconds left in the Lions, the Lions cut the Big Blue lead to ten, but a bucket from Gabrielle Thomas with nine seconds put the Big Blue ahead by 12 going into the second quarter. The Lions cut the Big Blue to single digits midway through the half, but the Big Blue answered with nine points to extend their lead to 18. Lincoln scored a bucket with under a minute to play, but a three from Aerihna Afoa put the Big Blue with a 40-21 advantage going into the half.
A three from Azariah Binford at the 8:18 mark gave the Big Blue the largest lead of the night at 24. The Lions outscored the Big Blue 14-11 in the third quarter to cut the Big Blue lead to 15 going into the final quarter. A trip to the line by Davis extended the Big Blue lead to 17 with 3:11 left in the fourth. The Lions got as close as 13, but a jumper from Jamya Miller sealed the 67-54 victory over Lincoln (PA).
Alexyss Newman led all scorers with 23 points and eight rebounds. Binford added 11 points, with Sample coming away with nine points and seven rebounds.
