Baltimore, MD – Bluefield State University Women's basketball closed out their season in the Quarterfinal round of the CIAA Tournament after a 59-45 loss against Fayetteville State.
A three from Azariah Binford sparked a seven-point run for the Big Blue to take the 8-4 lead. Later in the quarter, a jumper from Binford gave the Big Blue the three-point lead, but a trip to the line for the Broncos cut the Big Blue lead to one going into the second.
The Broncos took the one-point lead to open the second quarter, but two free throws from Katrina Davis put the Big Blue ahead 13-12. The Broncos answered in the next possession with a three to take the three-point lead. A layup from Sincere Roberts evened the score at 15, but the Broncos would close out the quarter with 11 consecutive points to take the 26-15 lead into halftime.
The Broncos had their largest lead of the night (19) with two minutes left in the third, but a three from Alexyss Newman and a free throw from Gabrielle Thomas cut the Broncos lead to 15 going into the final quarter.
The Big Blue pulled within eight with the minutes left in the fourth, but could not pull any closer to the Broncos, falling 59-45.
