Buckhannon, WV – Bluefield State University baseball swept West Virginia Wesleyan College 13-2 and 10-6 on Wednesday.
Game One
The Big Blue got on the board in the first after back-to-back singles from Peyton Lewis and Tahir Meulens followed by a walk from Chris Larkin to load the bases. Jean Carlos Diaz singled to left field to bring in two for the Big Blue. The Bobcats added one in the bottom of the inning to cut the Big Blue lead to one. The Big Blue added five in the top of the fifth to extend their lead. A single from Meulens and Larkin put runners on first and second and later second and third after a balk. Diaz singled to bring in Meulens for his third RBI of the game. Garrett Hladilek got on base due to an error, and Larkin scored. Dillion Sullivan singled to load the bases with Joseph Pilewski drawing the walk to extend the Big Blue lead to five. Noah Moritz singled to bring in two to push the Big Blue lead to 7-1.
Meulens singled to right field in the top of the fourth, followed by a Larkin homerun to add two for the Big Blue. The Bobcats cut the Big Blue lead to eight in the fifth, but the Big Blue added two in the sixth and one in the seventh to come away with the 13-2 victory.
Zach Powell collected the win on the mound throwing six innings, giving up five hits, two runs, three walks and striking out four.
Game Two
The Big Blue took the early 1-0 lead in the first, but the Bobcats took the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring four. The Big Blue answered in the top of the fourth, bringing four across the plate to take the 5-4 lead. The Bobcats added two in the bottom of the inning to take back the lead 6-5. The Big Blue began to pull away in the fifth after two doubles from Korbin Bostic and Peyton Lewis, and a single from Meulens brought two home to give the Big Blue the 8-6 lead. The Big Blue added one in the sixth and one in the seventh to secure the 10-6 victory over the Bobcats.
Alex Kanipe threw five innings for the Big Blue giving up eight hits, six runs, two walks and striking out six.
