Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State bounce back to avoid the sweep with a 6-2 victory after falling on Friday 3-1 and 3-2.
Game One
Both teams went scoreless during the first two innings, but the Trojans scored three in the third to take the lead. In the fifth, Peyton Lewis doubled to center field followed by a single up the middle from Tahir Meulens to put one on the board for the Big Blue. The Big Blue would have runners at first and second in the sixth, but weren't able to bring any across the plate falling 3-1.
Zach Powell threw the complete game for the Big Blue, giving up 12 hits, three runs, and struck out seven.
Game Two
The Trojans scored two in the second to take the early lead. A lead off homerun to left field in the bottom of the inning by Garret Hladilek cut the Trojan lead to one. Chris Larkin lead off the sixth with a single up the middle and advanced on a wild pitch. Later in the inning with two outs, Jacob Trivette doubled to left center to bring home Larkin to even the score at two. The Trojans were able to add one to the board in the seventh to take the lead and the victory over Bluefield State.
Alex Kanipe picked up the loss on the mound. Kanipe threw 6.2 innings giving up ten hits, three runs, one walk and striking out four.
Game Three
The Big Blue offense showed off early in game three, after a single from Tahraun Hammond and a homerun over left field by Peyton Lewis. In the second inning, Noah Moritz singled to left field and Hammond hit an inside the park homerun to extend the Big Blue lead to four. The Trojans got on the board in the third, but the Big Blue added another run, 5-1. A Hladilek homerun extended the Big Blue lead 6-1 in the seventh. The Trojans would add one in the eighth, but couldn't pull any closer to the Big Blue, 6-2.
Connor Elliot earned the win for the Big Blue, throwing eight innings only giving up three hits, two runs, one walk and struck out four. Braeden Major closed out the final inning with two strike outs.
