Big Blue Set New Season Wins Record with Sweep Over WV Wesleyan

Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University set a new season wins record (27) after taking down West Virginia Wesleyan College 8-6 and 12-0.

Game One

The Bobcats took the early lead, scoring six in the first inning. Peyton Lewis added one for the Big Blue in the bottom of the inning after a single, a stolen base and a wild pitch. A double by Korbin Bostic brought one home for the Big Blue to pull within four of the Bobcats. Down by two going into the fourth, a three-run homerun by Tahir Meulens gave the Big Blue the one run lead. A sacrifice fly from Meulens in the sixth secured the Big Blue victory 8-6.

Conner Elliott started on the mound for the Big Blue giving up four hits, six runs and two walks. Braeden Major earned the win for the Big Blue throwing 6.1 innings, giving up two hits and striking out six.

Game Two

The Big Blue offense quickly went to work in game two, scoring six in the first inning. Both teams would go scoreless through the next three innings until the fourth when the Big Blue would add three to push their lead 9-0. The Big Blue added one in the fifth and two in the sixth to seal the 12-0 victory.

Tahraun Hammond, Kerry Collins and Zane Eggleston combined for the shut-out win on the mound. Hammond threw five innings only giving up one hits and striking out five. Collins and Eggleston threw one inning apiece, each striking out one.

Up Next

The Big Blue will host Carolina University April 26th & 27th with a single game on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a double header on Saturday at 3 p.m.
