Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University women's basketball fell to Bowie State 65-60. The Big Blue move to 9-17 (2-12 CIAA) with the Bulldogs moving to 17-9 (11-3 CIAA).
The Big Blue jumped out to an early advantage, leading 19-14 after the first quarter, but a tough second quarter with just eight points from the Big Blue allowed the Bulldogs to even the score at halftime.
Bluefield State kept pace in the second half, trailing by only three going into the fourth quarter. The Big Blue pulled within two at the 5:21 mark of the fourth, but the Bulldogs pulled away to take the 65-60 victory over the Big Blue.
Azariah Binford led the Big Blue with 13 points, hitting two threes while adding five assists and two steals. Jayla Sample and Zaynah Robinson each contributed 12 points, with Robinson knocking down four threes. Tianna Rhodes also reached double figures with 10 points and three assists.
Defensively, Jasmine Jenkins controlled the glass, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds, while the Big Blue recorded 11 steals as a team.
