Elizabeth City, NC – Bluefield State University women's basketball took down Elizabeth City State University 57-43. The Big Blue finishes the regular season 10-18 (3-13 CIAA) with the Vikings finishing 8-16 (5-11 CIAA).
The Vikings took the 3-0 lead, but two free throws from Tianna Rhodes and a layup from Jasmine Jenkins gave the Big Blue the one-point lead. The Big Blue built a three-point lead by the 5:24 mark, but the Vikings took back the lead. The Big Blue closed out the quarter with back-to-back buckets from Jenkins and Azahrey Drayton-Gill to take the one-point lead into the second quarter. The Big Blue extended their lead to four, but the Vikings pulled within one with two minutes left in the quarter. The Big Blue scored four to take the 24-19 lead into the half.
The Vikings cut the Big Blue lead to one, but the Big Blue quickly built an 11-point lead by the 1:40 mark and maintained that lead going into the final quarter. The Big Blue had their largest lead of the night (20) after Rhodes forced the turnover and took it the other way for two. Big Blue Caiyiah Smith scored the final bucket of the night to seal the 57-43 victory for the Big Blue.
Drayton-Gill led the Big Blue with 21 points and 13 rebounds followed by Jenkins with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
