Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University men's basketball took down Virginia Union University 97-83 after falling to the Panthers earlier in the season. The Big Blue move to 14-9 (7-5 CIAA) with the Panthers falling to 11-11 (5-5 CIAA).
The Panthers built a lead of seven by the eight-minute mark, but a dunk by Shainen Carter and a layup from Romeo Aquino gave the Big Blue the two point lead. The Big Blue pushed their lead to seven after a layup from Travon Cooper. Later, the Panthers closed out the half with three points to take the 43-42 lead into the half.
The Big Blue quickly took back the lead and extended it to seven after a layup from Larry Howell. With 7:33 left to play, a layup from Cooper pushed the Big Blue lead to 13. A trip to the line in the final minute of the matchup for Darius Boben took the Big Blue lead to 16. The Big Blue came away with the 97-83 victory over the Panthers.
Cater and Howell led the Big Bleu with 22 points apiece followed by Aquino with 15, and Rell Williams and Cooper with 13 each.
