Box Score Baltimore, MD – Bluefield State University Men's basketball took down Fayetteville State (1S) in the Semifinal round 71-65. The Big Blue will face (1N) Virginia State Saturday, March 1st at 4 p.m.
Back-to-back layup from Jordan Hinds quickly pushed the Big Blue lead to four three minutes into play. Midway through the half, a layup from Larry Howell pushed the Big Blue lead to six midway through the half. The Broncos evened the score at 20, but the Big Blue scored 11 consecutive points to take the 31-20 lead. The Broncos cut the lead to four going into half.
The Broncos took a three-point lead by 11:32, but the Big Blue took the three-point lead after a three-point play from Shainen Carter pushed the Big Blue lead 53-50 midway through the half. The Big Blue had their largest lead of the second quarter at 11 after a fast break layup from Rell Williams. The Broncos cut the lead to three with three minutes left to play, but a dunk from Carter secured the 71-65 victory over Fayetteville State to move on to Championship Saturday.
"This team has fought all season for moments like this," said Head Coach Devin Hoehn. "We knew Fayetteville State was a tough opponent, but our guys stayed locked in, executed and showed the heart that has gotten us this far. I'm proud of every single one of them. But we're not done yet, there is still one more to go."
The Big Blue were led by Carter with 17 points and Hinds came away with double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds with Rell Williams coming away with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
