Big Blue Women’s Basketball Expands Staff

Bluefield, WV - Bluefield State University Women's Basketball welcomes Monterika Warren to the program, bringing with her a strong blend of head coaching experience, championship pedigree, and deep knowledge of the game.

Warren joins Bluefield State after serving as head women's basketball coach at Johnson C. Smith University, where she led the Golden Bulls during the 2023–24 season. In her second year at the helm, she guided JCSU to a 14–13 overall record and a CIAA Tournament quarterfinal appearance. She was officially named head coach at JCSU in August 2023 after previously serving as an assistant women's basketball coach and Assistant Athletics Director for Student Affairs.

Before her time at JCSU, Warren gained Division I experience as Director of Basketball Operations at Austin Peay University and served as an assistant coach at Daytona State College. Her coaching résumé also includes head coaching roles at the secondary level in Florida, including Matanzas High School, Halifax Academy, and David C. Hinson Sr. Middle School.

As a player, Warren competed at a high level, beginning her collegiate career at Daytona State College, where she led her team to a Mid-Florida Conference Championship and earned two First Team All-Conference selections. She later transferred to Bethune-Cookman University, helping the Wildcats capture two MEAC regular-season championships and make back-to-back WNIT appearances, posting a combined 45–8 record. Following graduation, she was selected for the prestigious WBCA "So You Want To Be A Coach" program, designed to prepare elite student-athletes for careers in coaching.

A native of Savannah, Georgia, Warren holds an associate degree in sport management from Daytona State College and a bachelor's degree in sociology from Bethune-Cookman University.
