Harrogate, TN – Bluefield State University baseball fell in their season opener against Lincoln memorial 12-2 on Tuesday.
The Railsplitters jumped out to an early lead, but the Big Blue found some life in the middle innings. In the fifth, Jordan Sams launched a solo home run to put Bluefield State on the board. They added another run in the sixth when Kevin Rodriguez, who led off the inning with a walk, was brought home by a two-out single from Curtis Ball to cut the deficit. However, the Railsplitters responded with a heavy offensive push in the late frames to secure the victory.
Andy Williams collected the loss on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings and allowing two runs. Gray Peel provided 3.1 innings of relief, striking out one, while Jaedin Guerra and Andres Varas also made appearances on the mound.
Kevin Rodriguez, Angel Martinez, Curtis Ball, Jack Sams, and James Germosen each collected a hit for the Big Blue.
