Bluefield, WV – Bluefield State University women's basketball fell to Virginia State University, 81-69. The Big Blue move to 12-10 on the year and 6-7 in conference play.
The contest featured six ties and two lead changes. The Trojans established an early rhythm, outscoring the Big Blue 23-16 in the opening half. The Big Blue remained competitive, but the Trojans' efficiency in the paint and a 39-point contribution from their bench allowed them to maintain a double-digit cushion for the second half.
The Big Blue defense remained active, forcing 22 turnovers and collecting 10 steals. The Big Blue found success in transition, converting those Trojan miscues into 26 points off turnovers.
Jasmine Jenkins led the way for the Big Blue with a game-high 26 points, four rebounds, two assist, and two steals. Jhakia Gist contributed 14 points while Azahreya Drayton-Gill added 10 points and six rebounds.
