Mill Spring, NC – The Bluefield State University Track & Field program competed at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championships, highlighted by Darius Brown being named CIAA Field Athlete of the Year. Brown secured finished 8th in the triple jump with a distance of 13.79m.
On the track, Robert Scott punched his ticket to the 200m finals with a 21.71s in prelims. In the finals, he clocked a 21.79s to take 5th overall. He also narrowly missed the 60m final, finishing 9th with a time of 6.98s.
Taniyah Hicks notched a personal record in the 60m (7.99s) and a 60m Hurdles time of 9.19s. She took that momentum into the field events, taking 7th in the long jump (5.42m). Sekou Coulibaly came away with a 7th-place finish in the 800m with a time of 1:58.45. Ja'myiah Walker's throw of 12.73m posted a 5th-place finish.
The championship meet concluded with the 4x400 relays. The men's team of Coulibaly, Ean Nance, Samaritan Page, and Scott finished with a time of 3.25.60, followed by the women's team of Hicks, Genesis Lee, Kellie Williams, and Taleyah Palmer finishing with a time of 4:16.30.
