Baltimore, MD – Bluefield State University women's basketball dominated in the opening round of the CIAA Basketball Championships with an 82-56 victory over Shaw.
The Big Blue defense took control immediately, holding the Bears to just eight points while scoring 25 of their own in the first. The Big Blue forced 42 turnovers and converted them into 43 points. The Bears attempted to rally late with a 27-point fourth quarter but couldn't overcome the deficit set by the Big Blue.
Azahreya Drayton-Gill recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds while adding two blocks and two steals. Jayla Sample and Jasmine Jenkins added 13 a piece with Sample adding nine rebounds. Leniyah Fulsom and Michelle McGee rounded out the double digit scoring with 10 each.
