Hickory, NC – Bluefield State University baseball fell in a doubleheader against Lenior-Rhyne University on Tuesday, 9-4 and 12-4. The Big Blue move to 3-5 on the year.
Game One – 9-4 L
The Big Blue took the lead early, scoring one in both the first and second innings. Blake Mckinney drew the leadoff walk with Curtis Ball collecting the RBI later in the inning. Anderson Moreno led off the second with a single, advanced to third off of Lenior-Rhyne errors and later was brought home by Edwin Hernandez.
Lenior-Rhyne evened the score in the third and took the lead after scoring two in the sixth. Angel Martinez put the Big Blue back on top in the seventh with a two-run homerun, but Lenior-Rhyne scored five in the bottom of the seventh to take the 9-4 win.
Alex Compton started on the mound for the Big Blue, throwing three innings, giving up two hits, two runs, four walks while striking out three. Andy Williams appeared for two innings of relief, walking two and striking out one. Logan Horner took the loss on the mound for the Big Blue (2 Hits, 3 Runs, 2 Walks).
Game Two – 12-4 L
Lenior Rhyne built a 9-0 lead in the first four innings of the nightcap. In the fifth, Hernandez drew the leadoff walk followed by a single from Moreno to put the Big Blue on the board. The Big Blue offense came to life in the sixth after Max Altieri was hit by the pitch followed by a walk from Nate Rollins and Kevin Rodriguez was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Hernandez drew the full count walk to bring home one followed by a single from Moreno to plate two more. Lenior-Rhyne added two more in the sixth to extend their lead 12-4.
Willam Grubb took the loss on the mound giving up two hits, six runs and four walks. Jaedin Guerra and Jaxon Hatfield threw 1.1 innings each with Joel Camp and Josh Mason throwing one each.
