Ferrum, VA – Bluefield State University baseball split a double header contest against Ferrum College on Tuesday. The Big Blue dropped game one 7-5 but bounced back to take game two 10-8.
Game One – 7-5 L
Ferrum jumped out to an early lead, scoring three in the first to take the early lead. The Big Blue pulled within one after adding two in the third, but Panthers added one in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead. The Big Blue pulled within on again in the fourth, but the Panthers added three more to push their lead 7-3. The Big Blue attempted to rally in the seventh by adding two but couldn't overcome the Panther deficit.
Anderson Moreno led the Big Blue with two hits, including a double, and one run. Benny Fiens took the loss on the mound, throwing 1.1 innings allowing four hits, three runs and three walks.
Game Two – 10-8 W
The Big Blue bounced back in game two, scoring three in the opening frame. The Panthers brought home six to take the 6-3 lead going into the fifth. The Big Blue answered in the fifth with seven runs to take back the 10-6 lead. The Panthers chipped away, adding one in the sixth and one in the seventh, but the Big Blue secured the 10-8 victory.
Nick Diaz led the Big Blue collecting two hits, two runs and four RBIs. Josh Mason collected the win for the Big Blue, throwing 1.1 innings allowing two hits, two runs and two walks. Andy Williams earned the save by allowing three hits, one run while striking out one.
