Bluefield State University

Welsey Arthur joined Bluefield State athletics in August 2023 as the head Cross Country and Track and Field coach.

Prior to Bluefield State, Arthur served as the head cross-country coach at Mary Baldwin University. While there, he guided the women’s team to an eighth out of 18-conference finish and led the men’s program through its first season of varsity competition. Arthur also served as the assistant coach for the men’s and women’s track and field teams at Virginia Union University. Working primarily with jumpers, Arthur coached three CIAA Champions and one U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-region performer in the triple jump.

Before collegiate coaching, Arthur coached at the High School Level in Richmond since 2015. He led seven VHSL AAAA state qualifiers in boys' and girls' high jump and long jump, and the state runner-up in the boys' 55m dash. Richmond City Public Schools claimed 14 regional championships under his tutelage.

Arthur graduated from Virginia Union, where he was a four-year member of the cross country and track and field programs, with a BA in history and political science.
